The Property

Built in 1871, Folly View is a beautiful Victorian cottage which has been greatly improved by the current owner. Set in large gardens totaling approximately 1/3 acre, this delightful property enjoys the most stunning views across open countryside to the Long Mynd. Approached from a quiet lane, which has little passing traffic, a wooden five bar gate opens to a large graveled driveway providing ample parking.

The property is entered via the porch, which has been completely rebuilt and insulated. The first reception room to greet you is the dining room, full of character you'll immediately feel at home while admiring the quarry tiled floor, exposed timbers and brick work and fireplace which has a fully lined chimney. The living room however is our particular favorite, a high ceiling and dual aspect windows make this a lovely light and airy room. The brick built fireplace, housing the wood burning stove, is perfect for those cold winter's evenings, while other features such as the ham hooks and exposed stone work add to the charm. Folly View isn't short on storage either, the living room has a large built-in cupboard and the dining room has two more. The kitchen is part of a later extension to the cottage, which has had the roof lifted and insulated, it is fitted with a range of matching wall and base units and has provision for a fridge, freezer, electric cooker and dishwasher. Off the kitchen you will find a utility area and WC where there is plumbing for a washing machine and space for a tumble dryer. Completing the extension is the garden room/third bedroom. Depending on your situation, this room can be flexible, it has in the past been used as a bedroom, but is currently utilised as a garden room and study.

On the first floor you will find two further bedrooms, both are double rooms and have lovely views. The landing gives access to the loft space, which provides yet more storage. Off the landing is a walk-in wardrobe which has a clothes rail, shelving, radiator and double power point. Completing the internal accommodation is the newly fitted bathroom which has a stunning finish. Fitted with a double walk-in shower cubicle, wash basin and a paneled bath, which is situated in such a way that you can enjoy the lovely view while having a soak. It's also worth noting that the property is fitted with an electric pump to increase the water pressure.

Outside you will find everything you could want from a cottage garden. A useful range of timber outbuildings, include a workshop with power and lighting, a log store, a chicken house and a garden shed, there is also a detached block built garage, The front of the property is bordered by an attractive dry stone wall, the other boundaries comprise a mixture of trees and hedges. The garden has a variety of lawned areas and paved patios, various flower beds, mature trees and shrubs and vegetable gardens. There is also a wooden pergola which is a perfect vantage point to enjoy the stunning views of the Long Mynd.

The Location

The quaint rural village of Woolston is set in some of the most scenic countryside South Shropshire has to offer. Woolston is a friendly community of approximately 30 dwellings. An annual BBQ is held in August where all the residents, young and old, gather to make merry, often into the small hours. It began as a celebration for the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and has continued, due to popular demand, ever since. It is a great opportunity to spend some informal time with the neighbours and enjoy the local camaraderie.

The 3 market towns of Church Stretton, Bishops Castle and Craven Arms are all within easy reach. Church Stretton, nicknamed Little Switzerland, is nestled at the foot of Shropshire Hills. Enjoying direct access to over 20 square miles of National Trust land known as the Long Mynd Church Stretton is a haven for nature lovers and those of an active disposition. Bishops Castle lies west of Woolston and is situated 1.5 miles from the Welsh border. An eclectic town, Bishops Castle has an excellent selection of independent retailers, a range of eating establishments and public houses. It is also home to two micro-breweries namely the Three Tuns which is the oldest in the UK. Craven Arms is located on the A49 and is the easiest to access from Woolston. Offering a good range of facilities including a supermarket, doctors surgery, banks, butchers and its own array of independent shops Craven Arms offers everything you will need for day to day living. A little further distant you will find the historic market town of Ludlow and the county town of Shrewsbury. Ludlow is an architectural gem with a stunning array of Tudor, Georgian and Victorian properties. A gastronomic centre, Ludlow plays host to the annual food festival which attracts 20,000 visitors to the town. It is also home to a wonderful array of eating establishments. Shrewsbury, the birth place of Charles Darwin, is a vibrant and lively town with a very cosmopolitan yet traditional atmosphere. The towns 660 listed buildings are complimented by a host of trendy and sophisticated bars and restaurants, the medieval streets do however still retain many classic public houses and dining establishments. Built on the River Severn the town hosts the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show which is one of the largest and oldest horticultural shows in the country attracting over 100,000 visitors. Home to 4 shopping centres, 2 significant retail parks and countless independent retailers the town is an excellent place to enjoy some retail therapy.
